HORSE RACING: Santa Anita ParK, 10/9/11
Today at Santa Anita ParK
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Tiz Golden – Ran well in MSW class in last; now drops back to a career-low class where he could move forward in a big way.
2 Frisco Kid – Has been working up a storm and is sure to be way overbet; clearly the one to beat with plenty of early gas.
Long Shot – 4 Hy Hand Poker
Race 2 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $33,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
7 Bonita Star – Game win last time without running her best race; if she improves a step or two, she could repeat.
5 Secret Cove – Chased the favorite in last to no avail; her race two back is fast enough to upset these.
Long Shot – 3 Carousel
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds
9 Michailasheartlite – Claimed by Mike Mitchell off a sharp run in last; drop in class can only help the cause.
4 Jade Taylor – Like the work Vann Belvoir has been doing in SoCal; sharp trainer spots his horses where they can win.
Long Shot – 2 Mavicsa
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Starlight Magic – Gave a good account of herself in a stakes last out; gets class relief running with other non-winners.
7 Speedway Monkey – Good debut race losing a length from graduating; double tough if she improves one step today.
Long Shot – 10 Heart’s Memory
Race 5 – 1 1/4 miles (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $48,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Isle of Prado – Mike Mitchell could have a good day if his horses cooperate; will sit a trip and grind it out late.
6 Red Alert Day – Back-class veteran appears to be back in good form; has tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot – 1 Jairzihno
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
9 Backwoods Belle – Claimed by John Sadler off an easy graduation day; gave her 6 weeks to settle for this spot.
6 Under Protest – Won easier than it looked at Fairplex; not sure what she beat, but she did it simply enough.
Long Shot – 1 Toluca
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $30,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
14 Doctor Carina – Tough post but I like the way she is coming up to the race; will get value with Jose Valdivia, Jr. up.
6 Initial Impression – Tepid chalk in a wide-open affair; solid turf resume, this $32K class is right up her alley.
Long Shot – 4 Bella Swan
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, $65,000 Louis R. Rowan, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Church Camp – Key for me is her dirt resume and fondness for Arcadia dirt; she’ll offer good value, horse for course.
3 Mildly Offensive – Logical chalk gets class relief from stakes for this; this is more like a NW3X allowance condition.
Long Shot – 5 Home Sweet Aspen
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
7 Fast Bullet – FTS from Bob Baffert, working fast, what else?; the tote board will tell you what his chances are.
2 Candy Sweetheart – Just missed in a solid career debut at Del Mar; been held out since by John Sadler.
Long Shot – 4 Stormberg
Best Bet – 9 Michailasheartlite (race 3)
Santa Anita Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/5/$35.00; Long Shots, 10/2/$17.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals – 106/31/$203.40; Long Shots, 54/8/$89.00; Best Bets, 6/3/$17.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – 5 Stars to Shine (12/1) in race 9 at Keeneland. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Take Charge Indy ran out at Keeneland. Stats – 155/101/$794.80
