Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
3 Jack O Lyn – Has won 2-of-3 starts for Jeff Mullins off the claim; aggressive class rise shows he is razor sharp.
1 Hadfunlastnight – Has a solid dirt resume of 4-for-4 in the money; ground saving trip under Alonso Quinonez.
Long Shot – 2 Harbor Wind
Race 2 – 1 1/4 miles (turf), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
1 Gab Power – He’s not big on winning, but cashes a lot of paychecks; edge can be the marathon turf distance.
2 Erbeia – Not often will you turn back in distance going 10 furlongs; lost a head bob to Porfido in last.
Long Shot -8 Smug
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds
4 Midnight Con – Doug O’Neill drops him to the $30K price tag he claimed him at; second best in last 9-lengths in arrears.
2 Jay’s Firetruck – Has shown steady improvement, his last being his best yet; huge rider switch to Garrett Gomez for the money shot.
Long Shot – 10 Rude Bobby
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
4 Kids Table – Draw a line thru a poor turf start and her dirt resume is fine; her dirt race two back can upset these.
1 Lisa Lulu – Logical chalk ran best among these last out; the key is if she’ll regress off a big effort.
Long Shot – 9 Lauren C
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
9 Fleet Eagle – Tries turf for the first time; look at who he’s chased lately, Bodemeister, Out of Bounds, Castaway, Liaison and Holy Candy.
11 Chickie Charms – Logical chalk has been knocking on the door in turf races; note that Rafael Bejarano jumps to Wildcat Candy.
Long Shot – 12 Canuletmedowneasy
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
3 Hollywood Heist – Been away 10-months, but kept good company back then; key vote is that Rafael Bejarano takes the mount.
1 Obsess – Ran a career best last time in victory; key for me is if he’ll bounce making him a very vulnerable favorite.
Long Shot – 5 Chapman’s Peak
Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $30,000, Starter handicap $16,000, 4-year-olds and up
3 Wild Revenge – Kayla Stra made an interesting choice to exit this one for King Ledley; shows how wide open this race is.
9 Letsgetitright – Mike Mitchell at 12/1 is too juicy a price to pass up; has speed to lead or attend the early pace.
Long Shot – 4 King Ledley
Race 8 – 1 1/2 miles, $100,000 Tokyo City Cup, 4-year-olds and up
5 Dhaamer – Leap of faith that his U.S. debut is on dirt because Mike Mitchell knows; key vote too of Rafael Bejarano.
1 Twice the Appeal – Logical chalk exits a caboose trip in the Santa Anita Handicap; should find these a lot easier.
Long Shot – 3 Skipshot
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
12 Suances Candy – Big debut second for Darrell Vienna; his babies win at 50 percent second time out, capper for Rafael Bejarano.
11 Turn On the Pumps – Like the turn back in distance for this hillside sprint; Chantal Sutherland will sit back for one run.
Long Shot – 1 Huntsville
Best Bet – 3 Jack O Lyn (race 1)
Santa Anita Park Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/6/$32.60; Long Shots, 7/1/$4.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00
Santa Anita Park Totals – 884/234/$1,465.20; Long Shots, 444/64/$729.80; Best Bets, 50/21/$74.60
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #4 Hailstone (10/1) in race 10 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total.
