TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Halfapondarosa – Won in this nearly exact condition two races ago; has the back class to repeat a winning effort.
3 Kiss My Swiss – Has a solid synthetic record overall; second start off a 3-month hiatus, should be a lot tighter.
Long Shot – 6 Ambitoness
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 You’llalwaysbemine – Won 2-of-4 starts over synthetic surfaces; huge class drop offers her a big chance regardless.
5 Vikkilee – Won in this class two back, albeit on turf and not synthetics; she’s capable of sitting and firing late.
Long Shot – 7 Living Our Dream
Race 3 – 7 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Miner’s Daughter – Bob Baffert babies typically improve a ton second time out; Mineshaft filly will want to go longer.
2 Jaredella – Second six races in a row, thus that’s where I’ll place her tonight; flattered when Rock and Glory won next out.
Long Shot – 6 Personal Sunset
Race 4 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
5 Fable Haven – Among a few that exited the Canuletmedownslowly race; has every right to improve for Vann Belvoir.
3 Mikey T – FTS is the morning line favorite; key vote for me comes from Joel Rosario who is getting back into the swing of things.
Long Shot – 1 My Best Brother
Race 5 – 7 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Sparkling Style – Returned off a 9-month hiatus with a big win; well regarded filly still has a big upside if she keeps improving.
6 With a Miracle – Exits a sharp MSW graduation win; suspect Joel Rosario will stalk the favorite and try her in the lane late.
Long Shot – 4 Twitter Pie
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $36,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Dewey’s Special – Gets class relief from a show finish in the Sidd Finch; his only gear is fast and faster.
9 Celestic Night – Mike Mitchell puts up the red flag for $32K on this colt; game of cat and mouse among these trainers.
Long Shot – 10 Stoneside
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
2 Classic Legacy – Bob Baffert horse is much better over synthetics than dirt; third start off a 14-month hiatus.
5 Fiddlers Afleet – Ambitious ship to Belmont Park did not work out as hoped for; made sense because he is a NY-bred.
Long Shot – 3 McKenzies Way
Race 8 – 6 furlongs (turf), $70,000 Great Lady M, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Mizdirection – Working on a 4-race winning streak for owner Jim Rome; Mike Pupye is carefully managing her schedule.
7 Briecat – She is battled tested in a whole bunch of good stakes races; she won her one try at this sprint distance.
Long Shot – 6 Broken Dreams
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Valkyrie Missile – Showed major improve first race off the claim by the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; repeat race wins this too.
6 Star Nicholas – Dead late closer rarely runs a bad one; his best races seemingly come over the synthetic surfaces.
Long Shot – 4 Earnednevergiven
Best Bet – 3 Miner’s Daughter (race 3)
Betfair Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$35.40; Long Shots, 9/1/$4.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Betfair Hollywood Park Totals – 321/75/$518.60; Long Shots, 161/26/$245.00; Best Bets, 16/4/$16.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #6 Mutual Trust (5/2) in race 8 at Woodbine. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Aruna won at Belmont Park paying $6.10 to win, $3.10 to place and $2..60 to show. Stats – 80/53/$460.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
