Horse Racing, Hollywood Park, June 21
June 21, 2012 - 1:02 am
Today at Hollywood Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds
2 Tribal Dreams – Claimed off two wins and dropped in class by Gary Sherluck; Sherluck has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor.
6 Call Me Jones – Steve Knapp has been winning races of late; his signature move is to win on the drop, just like this horse.
Long Shot – 1 Pop the Cork
Race 2 – 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
6 Manewal – Peter Miller has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; by City Zip out of a Silver Deputy mare, that’s turf pedigree.
2 Rob’s Pal – You’ll have a big edge over me in seeing the tote board action on the many FTS; Jeff Mullins must always be respected.
Long Shot – 7 Speedinthruthecity
Race 3 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
9 Iotapa – FTS from Marty Jones gets the services of Rafael Bejarano; your advantage is the field is chock full of FTS.
8 Divas and Diamonds – Showed a good early burst in her debut; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.
Long Shot – 3 Gambulina
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Magic Beam – Aggressive class rise off a second place finish; has enough back class to think he has a better race left in him.
1 Runaway Bandido – Been away 4-months so he’s fresh as a daisy; saves all the ground, figures to be grinding it out late.
Long Shot – 6 Panettone
Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Elana Mar – Tough beat last time when she had to idle in mid-stretch before rallying late; David Flores will carve out a trip.
1 Highly Rated – I don’t usually like picking recent graduates facing winners for the first time; it is a solid class rise.
Long Shot – 2 Warren’s Goldie
Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 I’m Always Hopeful – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low run; need not be much to grind out a victory.
7 Malibu Love – Money burner was second at odds on twice in a row; she may win today, but I doubt if you’ll get even with her.
Long Shot – 8 Aredhel
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Glamorista – Lost last out to a very talented filly Reneesgotzip; she has the potential to win stakes, a lot of them.
2 Orientatious – Logical morning line favorite; the key is her fitness returning from a 11-month hiatus, this is just a prep.
Long Shot – 4 Sparkling Style
Race 8 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
8 Citizen Bernstein – Ran OK in debut, now facing a bunch of FTS; your edge will be seeing the tote board action.
3 Ruler of the Tribe – FTS from the live Peter Miller barn; like the fact Miller is stabled at Hollywood and trains there.
Long Shot – 1 Renee’s Titan
Best Bet – 2 Tribal Dreams (race 1)
Betfair Hollywood Park Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$20.80; Long Shots, 8/2/$23.00; Best Bet, 0/0/$0
Betfair Hollywood Park Totals – 554/143/$931.00; Long Shots, 280/42/$413.80; Best Bets, 29/9/$36.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #4 Miss Femme Fatale (8/5) in race 3 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Johannesbourbon ran second at Churchill Downs paying $4.00 to place and $2.40 to show. Stats – 94/63/$526.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
