Horse Racing, Hollywood Park, July 1
Today at Hollywood Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Axle – Ran evenly in his career debut; Kathy Walsh takes the blinkers off and her babies improve second time out.
4 Mucho Macho Mark – FTS from Kristin Mulhall; has worked well, you’ll see clues by observing the tote board action.
Long Shot – 5 Hello Frankie
Race 2 – 1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $55,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Byrony – Won a sharp U.S. debut over a NW1X first level allowance; this is tougher, but she has a high ceiling.
8 Thisismystage – Gets a parking lot post leaving the chute, which is a negative; has tactical speed to secure a spot.
Long Shot – 7 Celestial Kitten
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds
5 Fist Pump – The last time he ran for a $20K price tag, he won up in NoCal; likes synthetics, this is a good spot for him.
3 Hadfunlastnight – Sharp win first off the claim by Bill Spawr; has enough back class to handle the class hike tonight.
Long Shot – 4 J J’s Jaguar
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Dance Thewayyouare – Tepid chalk in an ugly looking bunch; the key for me is she woke up last out under Rafael Bejarano.
3 Quick Wampum – No secrets on the SoCal backside; FTS was claimed by Mark Glatt and he bumps her up to a $30K price tag.
Long Shot – 5 Nicole’s Mark
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $52,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Deity – Showed extreme early speed down the hillside turf course at Santa Anita; been away 2-months, figures to pop the gate.
9 Sizzling Gold – She is quick, but has the ability to sit just off the pace; must overcome a parking lot post tonight.
Long Shot – 2 Elusive Cookies
Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
2 Fury Kapcori – FTS from the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; been working fast at Pleasonton, but is shipped south for debut.
12 Den’s Legacy – Logical chalk is another fast baby from the Bob Baffert barn; she is definitely the one to beat on the square.
Long Shot – 11 Cinco de Mario
Race 7 – 6 furlongs (turf), $68,000 Robert Kerlan Memorial Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
7 Comma to the Top – He has always been blistering fast; I always thought he’d excel at 1-turn races, like today.
4 Obviously – Mike Mitchell reportedly is doing well after surgery on Friday; more good news would be a win by this gelding.
Long Shot – 1 Rauschenberg
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds
4 Night Tide – Bob Baffert is winning with everything so it’s tough to pass him by; this one goes for a price tag, possible cull.
3 Let’s Get Crackin – Third start off a 2-month hiatus; has good tactical speed to sit a trip and come grinding late.
Long Shot – 1 Plenny of Henny
Race 9 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
4 D J Dave – Third best twice, but he has some ability; suspect it’s only a matter of time before it becomes diploma time.
12 Jaco Red – Woke up with a big effort last time out; key was seeing him get bet, obviously the connections saw the improvement.
Long Shot – 10 Joe Doggs
Best Bet – 1 Byrony (race 2)
Betfair Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/3/$16.60; Long Shots, 10/3/$35.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
