Horse Racing, Del Mar, July 29
Today at Del Mar
Post Time 2:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 2-year-olds
9 Move Over – Very few ship and win horses have been winning; I think the ones with a better chance have been sent to SoCal trainers.
7 Kentucky Kid – Tepid chalk in a wide open affair; you’ll have a big edge over me in seeing the tote board activity.
Long Shot – 5 Papa G. T.
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Melissa Rose – Dropping down to the class that John Sadler claimed her for; she clearly is competitive with these.
5 Church Avenue – Ron Ellis doesn’t claim many; he typically makes the most of his purchases and usually improves them.
Long Shot – 6 Real Housewife
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
5 Travesura – Another exiting the Executiveprivilege MSW race; she was an exciting FTS winner for Bob Baffert and now a stakes winner.
4 Sheaparoux – Mike Mitchell FTS has a name partly from his future son in law Julien Leparoux; Garrett Gomez gets the call today.
Long Shot – 7 Truly Marie
Race 4 – 1 3/8th miles (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $71,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 The Unusual One – The Barry Abrams barn has been one of the top stories early this meet; his horses are running and well.
4 Renegade Storm – Most of these in here are looking long in the tooth; the pace of this race figures to be timed with a sundial.
Long Shot – 3 Imponente Purse
Race 5 – 1 1/8th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Megaride – Sharp win in last and given a brief hiatus for his Del Mar debut; both his career wins have come over synthetic surfaces.
5 Man Chester Man – Claimed off a good effort by Bill Morey; spotted in the same class so a repeat race can be projected.
Long Shot – 4 Bench the Judge
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $71,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
3 High Test – Suspect can get square value because Garrett Gomez opted to ride the chalk; this one can sit a trip and come flying late.
4 Jimmy Creed – Logical chalk has high cheese and is the riding choice of Garrett Gomez; goes as fast and as far as he can.
Long Shot – 9 Nextdoorneighbor
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $73,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Jet Blue Girl – Claimed by Doug O’Neill off a sharp win; he puts her right back in the same class, albeit on the stretch out.
3 A Jealous Woman – Reunited with Brice Blanc due to Rafael Bejarano being at Monmouth Park; he is riding Paynter in the Haskell.
Long Shot – 4 Plaza de Indias
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, $300,000 Bing Crosby, 3-year-olds and up
1 Amazombie – No shame falling just short to Shackleford in the Churchill Downs Handicap; can stalk and grind it out late.
4 The Factor – The key to the race today is Comma to the Top; will he go head and head with The Factor or not.
Long Shot – 5 Capital Account
Race 9 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $40,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 On Time Again – Another ship and win and this one has been training for Mike Mitchell; South Florida turf form is very good.
7 Little Emily – Big rider switch to Eswan Flores for the money shot; had a subtle tough trip last time which led to the rider switch.
Long Shot – 5 Warren’s Mo Money
Race 10 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Pennies From Denny – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; lost all chance at the start in debut.
8 Pink Blanket – Been away 16-months, but returns at the lowest class level of her career;p need not be much to put up a tussle in here.
Long Shot – 4 Nana Beach
Best Bet – 3 High Test (race 6)
