Horse Racing, Del Mar, July 26

Today at Del Mar

Post Time 2:05 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $24,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Ambitoness – Claimed by Bill Morey off a lousy effort; she has many good races on her resume and could rebound in this spot.

5 Arrivederci Caro – Beaten favorite was a rare swing and miss for Mike Mitchell; he drops her down to the bottom, now or never.

Long Shot – 1 Saint Cindy

Race 2 – 5 furlongs (turf), Purse $71,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

2 Love My Way – Rafael Bejarano had choices and opted to ride for Mike Machowsky; tons of early speed, figures to save some for the finish.

10 Magic School – Barry Abrams is having a terrific start to the meet; his Lakerville is the first 2-time winner at the meet.

Long Shot – 1 Elusive Cookies

Race 3 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

1 Flamboyance – Bob Baffert cull is a FTS from the rail; Rafael Bejarano is riding first call for the barn, good and bad ones.

5 ella Bea Awesome – Doug O’Neill adding blinkers on for this; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.

Long Shot – 4 French Alps

Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

2 Stirred Up – He capable of winning by daylight or not making the trip; suspect many barns will pay the $16K to claim him.

8 Apply – Races under Paddy Gallagher despite running in NoCal for Steve Specht; he too is taking a huge class drop to face easier.

Long Shot – 3 Aragorn Sword

Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Maker Or Breaker – Bob Baffert FTS is beautifully bred by Empire Maker; the tote board will tell you what to expect.

9 Bobby Zapper – Baffert has an uncoupled entry and this is the longer price; would not be shocked if he wins and pays double digits.

Long Shot – 1 Miss Malibu

Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $71,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

5 Mary Fildes – This filly was a big underachiever in Dubai; suspect with first time Lasix and an easier spot, she could still become something.

12 Graser – Like the filly but she must overcome a tough parking lot post; Corey Nakatani will need to carve out a trip.

Long Shot – 4 Ricspretentiousgal

Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $78,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds and up

5 Coil – Every report says this colt is training remarkably well; as if Bob Baffert doesn’t have enough stars in the handicap division.

8 Shrug – Looks like he is starting to put things together; he won at Del Mar last June and didn’t win again until last out.

Long Shot – 3 Bank the Eight

Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

10 Midnight Con – Might of bypassed this horse except I see Rafael Bejarano up; he’s been riding a lot for Doug O’Neill too.

3 Ever Alert – Tepid chalk in a wide open finale; big class drop and a first time gelding are two reasons to give him a chance.

Long Shot – 5 A Day Away

Best Bet – 5 Coil (race 7)

Del Mar Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/5/$21.60; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.80
