Horse Racing, Del Mar, Aug. 2
Today at Del Mar
Post Time 2:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Beau Royale – Claimed by Vann Belvoir and dropped down in class; to say this is a good spot is an understatement.
1 America Rising – Flattered when Night Wind won next time out; tactical speed and the rail make him a dangerous foe.
Long Shot – 5 Speargun
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $40,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds
1 Rich Kid – Like these Calder shippers when they debut in SoCal; could make for a Vann Belvoir daily double.
2 The Roan Ranger – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low class; back to synthetics where he’s done his best.
Long Shot – 4 Take No Prisoners
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds
2 Let’s Get Crackin – There are many class droppers in these early races; could this be a Vann Belvoir pick 3, all his stock is live.
3 Hadfunlastnight – Claimed by Bill Morey and spotted to win right back; has shown he can win races in clusters.
Long Shot – 6 Tribal Dream
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Bella Viaggia – Typical green debut for a FTS; broke slow, settled and then finished with a flourish, improvement expected.
4 Tiz a Daisy – Her debut race was her best race synthetics; didn’t have a chance in last with a parking lot post in a turf sprint.
Long Shot – 3 Romance Is roman
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Lil Miss Macky – Claimed twice in a row and now dropped in class by Tim Yakteen; bottom class level but solid $20K purse.
1 Indy Beauty – Has run two good seconds for Jack Carava off the claim; she likes earning paychecks but needs to win a bit more often.
Long Shot – 8 Mavicsa
Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
1 Mine Fever – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; expect speed from the rail under Corey Nakatani.
7 One for Nothing – Finaly showed some improvement last time after two moribund efforts; this is a lousy field, won’t take much to win.
Long Shot – 2 Tiz a Minister
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $78,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Obviously – This 5-horse field may be the toughest on the card; sprinter stretching out figures to show a lot of early speed.
5 Key Decision – Has run well in last two turf routes; has tacitcal speed to sit on Obviously and hope that one fades late.
Long Shot – 4 Bruce’s Dream
Race 8 – 1 mile, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
2 Money Trailer – Ran well last out first time with blinkers on; suspect is ready to explode a big one under Garrett Gomez.
8 The Brain – This one had a flat tire last time as a 60-cent favorite; a bad race today and expect a price tag next time out.
Long Shot – 4 Northern Iowa
Best Bet – 2 Let’s Get Crackin (race 3)
