Horse Racing, Del Mar, Aug. 11

Today at Del Mar

Post Time 2:05 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

7 Scooter Bird – FTS from John Sadler; his barn has done exceptional work with their babies winning at a high strike rate.

1 Midnight Ballet – Tom Proctor barn has exceeded expectations; he didn’t bring out many horses, but they are all live in their spots.

Long Shot – 2 Revive Me

Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $45,000, Claiming $32,000, 4-year-olds and up

2 Euroglide – Reunited with Rafael Bejarano; he’s run some of his best races under the meets leading jockey.

1 E Z Led – Ran better than looked in last chasing next out winner Smokey Lonesome; saves all the ground and grinds it out late.

Long Shot – 6 Sky Cape

Race 3 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds

8 Primed and Ready – Been second best twice, now facing an exceptionally slow group; been well bet in both races too.

5 Lico – Even run while facing much tougher in his career debut; big rider switch to Rafael Bejarano signals intent.

Long Shot – 6 Confederate Recon

Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 Dave’s Pacemaker – Claimed by Robertino Diodoro off a solid second; like the fact that he hires Rafael Bejarano to ride.

1 Striking Spirit – The team of Iggy Puglisi and Paul Aguirre get together on this card a couple of times; watch the tote for clues.

Long Shot – 4 Streets of Heaven

Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

9 Bandolim – Given a test drive in debut; with this colt’s pedigree, he should be much better on grass than any other surface.

2 Time Lord – Tepid chalk in a tougher than looks field; fought hard until succombing in the final yards, nearly going wire to wire.

Long Shot – 3 Seal the Deal

Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $71,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

7 Gatheratthealter – Looks like a Bob Baffert cull, but look again; despite a $25K price tag, this race carries a $71K purse.

1 Unstopper Topper – Speed and the rail plus Garrett Gomez; saves all the ground and comes grinding in the lane.

Long Shot – 5 Woodmans Luck

Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $71,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

4 Smart and Single – Bob Baffert has so many young horses that look like potential superstars; takes the next logical step.

7 Dancingtothestars – Has won twice in a row, but did not show the brilliance of the Baffert filly; will need help softening up the chalk.

Long Shot – 3 Self Preservation

Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), $150,000 La Jolla Handicap, 3-year-olds

5 My Best Brother – Amazing how a four horse field can look so difficult to figure; a lot will depend on the pace of the race.

2 Old Time Hockey – Lost to the chalk on opening day in the Oceanside; has tactical speed to sit just off the early speed.

Long Shot – 4 Chips All In

Race 9 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

11 Secret Spy – His race two back is fast enough to upset these; should get honest value as Edwin Maldonado does not get bet.

8 Meadow Road – Was flattered when Grumpy Small Mouth won next out; huge class drop can only help the cause.

Long Shot – 6 You Little Devil

Race 10 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

9 Run’n On Residuals – Could be an Edwin Maldonado daily double; class drop from $40K to $20K can only help the cause.

7 War Face – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to the bottom rung; need not be much to handle this crew.

Long Shot – 2 Finegan Again

Best Bet – 4 Smart and Single (race 7)
