TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Flawless Jewel – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; suspect a late closing sprinter.
4 Tiabelle – Good speed effort in debut for Sean McCarthy; like that Joel Rosario remains loyal to the cause.
Long Shot – 1 My Diane
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Gilligan – Mike Mitchell cull figures to be tough on the drop; not seen in 3-months since Del Mar, will be overbet.
5 My Boy Luke – Only poor race of late was at Fairplex; he is sliding down the claiming ladder and is a strong contender.
Long Shot – 2 Tucky
Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $48,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Hakuchi – Dead late closer should see a solid early pace to chase; outside posts are tougher in sod sprints here.
1 Cayanna – Like the inside posts in turf sprints; enough tactical speed to protect her position going into the elbow.
Long Shot – 4 Princess Suances
Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds
1 Ashen – Logical chalk was upset by the horse to his right; the shorter distance will be to his advantage.
2 Lime Rock Revenge – Pick 6 buster at 23/1 odds win in last; Martin Pedroza has not been riding well of late.
Long Shot – 6 Sir Ed
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 Spring Bloom – John Shirreffs babies improve with experience; like the rider switch to barn jockey Mike Smith.
6 Salah’s Dancer – Tepid chalk ran well in career debut; she is capable of improving in second start for Kristin Mulhall.
Long Shot – 3 Amazingly
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Imperial Pride – Dead late closer returns to his preferred surface; big rider switch to Garrett Gomez for the money shot.
6 Arresting Officer – Mike Machowsky taking the blinkers off for this; figures to be among the early pacesetters.
Long Shot – 3 Cragmont
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), $60,000 Spearfish, Fillies, 3-year-olds
3 Celestial Kitten – Has run OK for Ben Cecil since shipping in from the east coast; big rider switch to Rafael Bejarano.
1 Long Lake Krista – Showed excellent speed in Keeneland sprint; stretching out around 2-turns, she’ll be in front early.
Long Shot – 4 Anniversary Girl
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
10 Musical Arts – Ron Ellis doesn’t claim many, but he liked this John Sadler cull; reunited with Joel Rosario.
3 Nicos Memory – Grinding win last time as the chalk; Doug O’Neill drops in class despite the win, being realistic.
Long Shot – 8 Backwoods Belle
Best Bet – 6 Hakuchi (race 3)
Hollywood Park Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$17.40; Long Shots, 8/4/$51.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals – 276/80/$481.40; Long Shots, 137/18/$246.80; Best Bets, 17/7/$25.80
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #6 Up And Out of Site (9/5) in race 5 at Fair Grounds. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total.
