Horse Racing
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $18.100, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Rev Her Up – Interesting to see a top jock like Rafael Bejarano riding in a cheap race; was overmatched in last two.
3 Lauren C – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career-low class; need not be much horse to handle this crew.
Long Shot – 4 Misinjennuous
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds
3 Mark of a Warrior – Has won two straight and shows no signs of letting up; tactical speed to sit a nice trip throughout.
6 Truco – Expect speedball tactics from this NoCal shipper; like that P Val takes over, the ultimate SoCal speed rider.
Long Shot – 5 Milans Sun
Race 3 – 1 1/2 miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), $150,000 San Luis Obispo, 4-year-olds and up
1 Bourbon Bay – He adores Santa Anita turf, is 5-for-5 wins over this course; tactical speed to be perfectly placed.
5 Champ Pegasus – Did everything but win last time in a strong effort; can rebound in second start off the Breeders’ Cup.
Long Shot – 3 Riviera Cocktail
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
5 Roulette It Roll – Has won 2-of-4 starts in NoCal, now ships to SoCal; like the hire of Rafael Bejarano to ride.
4 No Afillyation – Beaten favorite was flattered when Belle Palooza won next out; her race two back is fast enough to upset.
Long Shot – 2 Meter Me Gone
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds
2 Got Milch – Second start off a 2-month hiatus; has seemed to improve with each start, appears to be a useful sort.
4 Cat in the Forest – Like the win last time at a lower Beyer than the race before; tells me that he has room to improve.
Long Shot – 1 Dime
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
8 Jaredella – Ran like a talented green horse in debut; she was slow into stride, but closed fast on the outside.
10 Mildly Offensive – FTS from the Carla Gaines barn; you’ll have a big edge on me in seeing the tote board action.
Long Shot – 3 Revered
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Optional claiming 440,000, 4-year-olds and up
3 Kevlar Kid – Beaten favorite apparently did not like turf; tries dirt and could come up with a big effort tonight.
2 Galientos – Was poorly ridden in last when blasted into a wicked fast pace; can upset if handled more patiently.
Long Shot – 6 Gallatin’s Run
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, $150,000 San Carlos Handicap, 4-year-olds and up
5 Smiling Tiger – Barely held third for the bridgejumpers in last; move from the rail to the outside will definitely help.
6 Supreme Summit – First start back since a better-than-looked Breeders’ Cup; will try to close into a speed bias here.
Long Shot – 1 Mythical Power
Race 9 – 5 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds
8 Klassy Saint – Ran very well in career debut in a classic pop-and-stop try; was well bet, facing a very slow group.
7 Thunder of Zion – Outran his 24/1 odds when second in this class last time; repeat effort gives him a puncher’s chance.
Long Shot – 5 What a Goldmine
Best Bet – 1 Bourbon Bay (race 3)
Santa Anita Park Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/5/$39.80; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Park Totals – 563/156/$1,003.30; Long Shots, 282/38/$384.40; Best Bets, 33/14/$58.90
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 11 War of the Ranges (2/1) in race 7 at Tampa Bay Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Stepaside ran second at Tampa Bay Downs paying $2.60 to place and $2.40 to show. Stats – 32/26/$214.10
