TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Bayona – Beaten favorite in debut gave a good account of herself; claimed by Mark Glatt, big rider switch to Joel Rosario.
5 Brooklyn Rose – Has a nice closing style that could suit today’s pace scenario; best stride will come in the lane.
Long Shot – 6 Judy’s My Angel
Race 2 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Mizdirection – Ran huge in career debut at Santa Anita; tries turf for the first time and switches to Mike Smith.
8 Platinum Mine – Been away 11 months, she showed ability before being sidelined; long work tab, main question is fitness.
Long Shot – 1 Holy Script
Race 3 – 1 1/8th miles, $70,000 Alydar, 3-year-olds
1 Awesome Patriot – Another race that looks like the Bob Baffert Invitational; suspect the longer price horse wins.
2 Clarke Lane – Tepid chalk has to confront both Baffert horses; see if one attacks him early, the other one late.
Long Shot – 5 Uncle Sam
Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Samba School – Claimed three races ago by Mike Mitchell; drops down in class to the last level she won at.
2 El Nadia – Dead-late closer stretches out around 2 turns once again; has shown a fondess for Inglewood sod.
Long Shot – 7 Bellini Bliss
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Reality Ride – Like the turn back in distance where he’ll be stronger late; has cashed a lot of paychecks without winning.
2 Coal Region Kid – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; been more than 2 years though.
Long Shot – 10 Preferred Mandate
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Jax El – Could be lone speed in this turf mile; will like the turf rail out 15 feet to carry her speed farther.
6 Startjumpin Marnie – Has enough tactical speed to sit second or third off Jax El; will test that one turning for home.
Long Shot – 2 Jet Blue Girl
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
7 Fairway Road – When Mike Mitchell gets them good, they stay good, for a while; wins and drops, your move now.
9 Moon Stone Madness – Clever win in last in a fairly slow time; has room to improve, which can provide upset possibilities.
Long Shot – 6 Cato Major
Race 8 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $60,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
6 Smokey Lonesome – His 2 turf tries at the distance were placings in stakes; should have good tactical speed for Joe Talamo.
2 Compari – Logical chalk has won 3-of-4 turf races at today’s distance; figures to be forwardly placed throughout.
Long Shot – 1 Red Sun
Race 9 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Lease of Life – Peter Miller shoves this class dropper down our throats; hard to let him beat us at a short price.
6 Seven Secrets – Could be the speed of the speed should Martin Pedroza choose so; he’s comfortable with his friends here.
Long Shot – 1 Capt. Sparrow
Best Bet – 1 Awesome Patriot (race 3)
