Hornets take the lead
July 9, 2010 - 7:19 pm
Marcus Thornton scored 11 points and four rebounds to help New Orleans take a 45-38 lead over Golden State in the final game of the opening day at the NBA Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion.
Reggie Williams has 11 points for the Warriors, but it took him 10 shots to do it.
Former North Carolina star Brandan Wright added eight points for Golden State.
Who?
Only the most hardcore of basketball fans have ever heard of Sean Sonderleiter.
The Warriors may have even overlooked him on the scouting report.
Playing for the Hornets tonight, Sonderleiter has nine points on 4 of 5 shooting in the first half. He also grabbed three rebounds in just over seven minutes of action.
The former Iowa center was an average player at best in the Big 10, averaging just 8.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in his best of four seasons in Iowa City. He has been bouncing around various leagues for several years, but is coming off a breakout season for Fort Wayne in the D-League.
Buzzer Beater
Darren Collison hit a high-arcing fade away to beat the first-quarter buzzer for New Orleans.
It was one of the prettiest shots of the opening day.
The play was a nice moment for the former UCLA star. He is one of the most prominent players competing on the league’s first day, but had been 1 of 4 with a turnover up to that point.
He finished the first half with six points and six assists.
