River Cats score early, send 51s to seventh straight loss

Las Vegas’ late-season swoon continued as the 51s managed only four hits in a 6-1 loss to the Sacramento River Cats on Wednesday at Raley Field in West Sacramento, California.

The loss was the seventh straight for the 51s (52-85), who only have five games left in their season.

Center fielder John Mora had two of Las Vegas’ four hits and scored the 51s’ only run coming home on a Jeff McNeill sacrifice fly.

The River Cats scored all the runs they would need in the first inning. Four straight singles with two outs staked Sacramento starter Kraig Sitton to a 2-0 lead.

Sacramento added another run in the second when Steven Duggar’s single deflected off 51s’ starter Jonathan Albaladejo allowing Juniel Querecuto, who led off the inning with a double, to score.

Albaladejo fell to 1-4 after giving up five runs, four of them earned, on nine hits in four innings.

The 51s finish their four-game series with the River Cats at 7 p.m. Thursday before returning to Cashman Field for the final four games of the season against Tacoma.
