Ex-Bishop Gorman pitcher Wagner to make major league debut Sunday
The Milwaukee Brewers will call up former Bishop Gorman pitcher Tyler Wagner from Double-A Biloxi to start today against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Miller Park.
The 24-year-old right-hander, who will be making his major league debut, will start in place of Wily Peralta, who was placed on the disabled list with a left oblique strain.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 195-pound Wagner was the Brewers’ fourth-round draft pick in 2012 out of the University of Utah, where he served as the Utes’ closer. He posted a team-record 17 career saves in 57 appearances, with 90 strikeouts and a 2.72 ERA.
Wagner was converted to a starter after being drafted. This season he has made nine starts with Biloxi, with a 5-1 record and 2.01 ERA. In 53 2/3 innings, he has allowed 45 hits, including just one home run, with 38 strikeouts and 15 walks.
