Cimarron-Memorial advances to title game of state American Legion tourney
Cimarron-Memorial scored five runs in the eighth inning Friday night to rally for a 9-6 victory over Bishop Gorman in the semifinals of the American Legion baseball state tournament at UNLV’s Wilson Stadium.
The win lifted the Spartans into Saturday’s championship game against Liberty at 7 p.m. Top-seeded Liberty outlasted the Las Vegas Aces (Desert Oasis) 11-10 in 11 innings in a late game Thursday.
Trevor Lippard’s two-run double highlighted the eighth as Cimarron-Memorial overcame a 6-3 deficit.
Luis Flores earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of five-hit relief, while Larry Quaney worked two scoreless innings for the save.
Lippard, Ryan McHale and Alexander Marco each had two hits for Cimarron, while Nick Gates had four of Gorman’s 16 hits and Michael Blasko went 3-for-5 for the Titans.
