Below pitches four-hitter in 51s’ 2-0 PCL victory at Tacoma

Duane Below pitched a four-hitter to lead the 51s to a 2-0 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers in a Pacific Coast League game Tuesday at Tacoma, Wash.

Below (3-2) walked one and struck out two in the complete-game effort that lowered his ERA to 2.51. He threw 67 of his 98 pitches for strikes in a game that was played in only 1 hour, 59 minutes.

Las Vegas, which leads the Pacific South Division with a 26-14 record, scored both its runs with two outs. In the second inning, Travis Taijeron homered to left field for a 1-0 lead. In the seventh, T.J. Rivera reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning and scored on Alex Castellanos’ double to left.

The 51s managed seven hits off Tacoma starter Forrest Snow (1-4), who struck out six in seven innings and allowed one earned run. Taijeron went 2-for-3, and five players had one hit.

Center fielder Austin Jackson (ankle) continued his rehabilitation assignment for the Rainiers (17-23). He went 1-for-4 and is hitting .231 in four games with Tacoma.

Las Vegas is off today and will begin an eight-game homestand Thursday at Cashman Field. The Oklahoma City Dodgers will visit for four games, followed by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. It begins a stretch of 16 straight games against teams from the American Conference.
