51s right-hander Rafael Montero recalled by Mets

The New York Mets recalled 51s starting pitcher Rafael Montero on Tuesday night and optioned infielder Eric Campbell to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Montero, a right-hander, was summoned to New York on Tuesday morning but was not added to the Mets’ roster until after the team’s 2-1 loss to the Miami Marlins.

He was the 51s’ opening day starter, giving up two runs — one earned — in five innings Thursday.

Campbell played in Las Vegas in parts of 2013, 2014 and 2015. Last season, he hit .363/.493/ .593 in 33 games with the 51s.

The corresponding roster move was expected to involve starter Jacob deGrom, so another one could be forthcoming.

The Mets could opt to send deGrom to the paternity list for one to three days after he welcomed his first child on Monday or send him to the disabled list as he deals with right lat tightness.
