51s prevail again for 16th victory in past 18 games

Tyler Pill combined with two relievers on a three-hitter, and Brooks Conrad delivered a go-ahead two-run double to lead the 51s to a 3-1 victory over the Chihuahuas on Monday night in a Pacific Coast League game in El Paso, Texas.

The 51s went 6-2 on their trip and have won 16 of their past 18. Las Vegas returns home to Cashman Field today for a four-game series against the Sacramento River Cats.

Pill (1-0) allowed one run on three hits in seven innings with eight strikeouts and one walk to capture his first win of the season. He also helped himself with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, when Las Vegas (22-10) scored all of its runs.

John Church pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Scott Rice escaped trouble in the ninth to get his first save of the season. After retiring the first two batters, Rice issued back-to-back walks before striking out former 51s player Brett Wallace swinging to end the game.

Chris Smith threw six scoreless innings for the Chihuahuas (19-13), scattering four hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.

Eric Campbell and Brandon Allen walked in the seventh and Conrad followed with a two-run double as Las Vegas went ahead 2-1.

Tommy Medica stole home in the second to give El Paso a 1-0 lead. Medica hit a leadoff single and went to third on a one-out single by Taylor Lindsey, who stole third on a double-steal with Medica.
