51s, Isotopes split doubleheader

Darin Gorski allowed three hits and one unearned run to help the 51s salvage a split of a Pacific Coast League doubleheader against Albuquerque with a 3-1 victory Tuesday night at Cashman Field.

After the 51s were shut down in a 3-0 loss in the opener, Gorski went six innings in the nightcap before Zach Thornton worked a perfect seventh to get his first save of the season. Gorski struck out 10 and didn’t walk a batter.

Brandon Allen drove in the game’s first run with a double in the third, and Alex Castellanos followed with a two-run homer.

Las Vegas (48-38) had no such success at the plate in the opener.

Top prospect Jon Gray allowed three hits in six innings to record the victory. Kyle Parker and Dustin Garneau each scored and drove in a run for the Isotopes (38-48).

The 51s open a five-game home series with Salt Lake that includes a doubleheader on Thursday.
