51s establish franchise mark with 13th straight victory
Wilfredo Tovar drove in two runs, including one during the 51s’ three-run ninth inning, as Las Vegas rallied to top the Albuquerque Isotopes 6-4 in a Pacific Coast League game Wednesday night in Albuquerque, N.M.
The victory was the 13th straight for the 51s (19-8), giving them the longest win streak in Las Vegas’ 33-year Triple-A history. The Las Vegas Stars established the previous mark of 12 in 1987.
Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth, Brandon Allen hit a leadoff double and eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk to pinch hitter Cory Vaughn. The Isotopes (11-16) escaped further damage when center fielder Brandon Barnes threw out Travis Taijeron at the plate on Darrell Ceciliani’s flyout.
Allen, who finished 3-for-5, also had an RBI single in the ninth, when the 51s scored three runs on two singles, a walk, an error and two fielder’s-choice ground balls.
Taijeron went 3-for-3, including an RBI double in the first, helping Las Vegas to a 13-11 edge in hits. The 51s went 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base.
John Church (1-1) pitched a perfect eighth inning to get the win, and Chase Bradford gave up an unearned run in the ninth while picking up his fourth save.
51s starter Tyler Pill gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk and struck out three in five innings.
Isotopes starter David Hale gave up two runs on 10 hits and two walks and struck out three in 5 2/3 innings.
