10 foods Cashman Field should add to 51s game day menu — PHOTOS

If you made it out to Cashman Field for the spring training games between the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs last week, you may have noticed an unusual food option at the concession stands — bacon on a stick.

Although the pork “delicacy” is a coveted dish among Mets fans at Citi Field in New York, the team’s Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas 51s, only featured the dish for Big League Weekend.

In anticipation of the 51s season opener against the Fresno Grizzlies tonight, here are 10 unique and unusual stadium foods, from Major League Baseball parks across the country, that we wouldn’t mind having added to the menu at Cashman Field this season:

“Ballpark Bash Burger”

The Marlins’ hamburger-pretzel mix is the best of both worlds. Topped with seared beef, braised pork belly, lager beer cheese, onions and Dijonnaise, this is a food mash-up we can get behind.

The “Burgerizza”

Sold at the Atlanta Braves’ Turner Field, this $26 concoction is a mix between a cheeseburger and two pepperoni pizzas. As if the cheeseburger patty with two personal pizza “buns” wasn’t enough, the meat is topped with slices of bacon.

“Champions Alley Burger”

When you’re the reigning World Series Champions, you can kind of do what you want, and that’s exactly what the Kansas City Royals have done with this fried feast. The tempura fried cheddar bacon burger is also stuffed with cheese.

“Cheeseburger Dog”

Following in the footsteps of last year’s “Churro Dog,” the Arizona Diamondback’s have debuted its newest hot dog creation…well sort of. The “Cheeseburger Dog” may have the appearance of a hot dog, but the deep-fried creation is actually made from hamburger. The meal is also served like a BLT and topped with a house-made secret sauce.

“Cracker Jack & Mac dog”

There’s nothing conventional about the Pittsburgh Pirates’ newly added menu item. Although it’s technically a hot dog, it’s almost hard to remember that because the actual dog is hidden under mounds of Cracker Jacks, caramel sauce, jalapeños and macaroni and cheese.

“Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Dog”

In addition to a monstrosity of a sandwich called the “Wicked Pig” and a “Chicken and Donut Skewer,” the Texas Rangers have created the combination you’ve always longed for (right?) — hot dogs and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

“Hill Meatball Cone”

Although the St. Louis Cardinals’ meatball masterpiece isn’t necessarily what typically comes to mind when you think “stadium food,” it looks so delicious, why wouldn’t we want this served at Cashman Field?

The Cardinals are also one of the few teams that also have specialty desserts on their menu. Similar to the meatball cone, these “Dinger’s Donuts” also look pretty tasty.

“Slider Dog”

Yes, you’re seeing that correctly. The Cleveland Indians have topped a hot dog with macaroni and cheese, bacon and Fruit Loops cereal.

“Sweet Potato — Waffle — Chicken Sandwich”

The Houston Astros combined sweet potato waffles, grilled chicken, Greek yogurt, baby spinach and sliced tomatoes all in one easy-to-hold treat. What more could you possibly need?

Among other wild dishes, the New York Yankees have debuted a “Barnyard Wedding” cheeseburger, the “G.O.A.T. — Greatest of All Time” burger, a “Double-Double” cheeseburger/grilled cheese creation and the $27 two-foot “Tape Measure” cheesesteak sandwich.
