Union seeks political advantage from crash

To the editor:

Regarding the ambulance that was involved in a traffic accident and turned over on its side last week, I find it appalling that the firefighters union chief, Jeff Hurley, uses this situation for political gain.

Mr. Hurley says he has two firefighters injured because they were in the back of an ambulance and that possibly – he can’t say for sure – if they’d been using their own equipment they would have been all right.

Well, Mr. Hurley, sorry for your injured firefighters, but a woman died in this accident. You forgot to mention her.

Firefighters ride in ambulances every day, across this country. This was a traffic accident that could have occurred anytime, anywhere and you citing equipment and staffing issues as a cause is simply deplorable.

This is just one more nail in the coffin for the unions. We need to get rid of the unions that are causing the work forces across this country to be laid off because they have overpriced themselves with ridiculous wages and benefits and stupid comments by the union chiefs.

Patience

To the editor:

I love how Michelle Obama can stand in front of her adoring fans and ask them to have patience. Please be patient while you wait for your unemployment to run out, your home to be foreclosed, or while the country collapses under Barack’s unstopping spending.

After all, it’s someone else’s fault, surely it can’t be the president’s fault because he went golfing more than 100 times in his first term while we really needed him to fix the problems that he now says he’s got an answer for. Her husband needs more time, because he has been unable to do his job for the past year because he was a full-time campaigner-in-chief instead of the president he was being paid to be.

Please be patient while Mrs. Obama takes all of her relatives on very expensive vacations to France, Hawaii and Martha’s Vineyard on the taxpayers’ dime. Be patient and watch Mrs. Obama in her $5,000 dress stand in front of a burning Rome.

At least Caesar entertained his people with a fiddle.

Ending up like Greece

To the editor:

I wanted to step up to the microphone at the Democratic National Convention and say, "It’s the spending, stupid!" They toss around a billion here, a billion there, like it’s water.

Every working stiff in the world knows, if you ain’t got the money, you don’t spend it. You tighten your belt and just get the food on the table, a roof over your head, and transportation to work. If you weren’t trying to stay ahead of the foreclosure man or the bankruptcy folks, you could think of the expensive ideas like green energy, solar power, and helping the poor in other countries.

It’s survival. You decide little Johnny has to wear the same tight shoes because little Mary has to get a bad tooth pulled, and no new tires or dinner out this week; the power bill is due.

And you sure as hell don’t go borrow money from your enemies. They will gladly loan you into bankruptcy – the loss of your proud country and your children’s future.

Lofty ideas are fine when the economy is in order. But the billions spent on so-called stimulus plans have not done a damn thing for our economy and we can’t even find out where it all went. This is not the time to bother with social issues. Our heads are barely above water, our wages are down, and thanks to your ideas, our expenses are going up.

What don’t you understand? We don’t want to end up like Greece. It’s the spending, stupid.

The redneck states

To the editor:

I thought the Ted Rall cartoon depicting Republicans as Ku Klux Klan members and Nazis was right on. If you vote Republican, take a look at who you are voting with. Most of the red states are in the South, which has never gotten over the Civil War. They had to be dragged kicking and screaming to accept desegregation and civil rights. They want slavery back because if you look at the history of wages you will see that they have always been lower in the south. Also labor unions have never gotten a good foothold in the south.

Red states like Montana, Idaho, the Dakotas and even parts of blue states like Oregon and Eastern Washington had a large influx of Confederates after the Civil War. Here is where you find the militia crazies, white supremacists and neo-Nazis.

Religious zealotry is more prevalent in the red states because they elect congressional representatives who vote against abortion, homosexuals and contraception while the country goes to hell, because these representatives will not vote to help the unemployed and people who have lost their homes.

They want to destroy what little medical care is available through Medicaid, Medicare and ObamaCare.
