Theater chain likely to lose business

To the editor:

Like others, I, too, was wondering why the Regal Cinemas movie schedule was no longer appearing in the newspaper. Thanks to Jane Ann Morrison’s column (“Older, disabled moviegoers forsaken by cinema corporation,” Jan. 8) I have an answer.

One of our greatest gifts in this country is the freedom of choice.

I choose to consult my newspaper for movie listings and information. It takes two seconds to find what I need.

Last weekend, I went to see a film at a Regal competitor’s theater. I’m sure Regal lost the business of others, as well.

Techno-wizardry should not be the only highway to a common destination.

Thank you, Ms. Morrison.

Real world

To the editor:

I admire Glenn Cook’s sense of fiscal responsibility, but find it misplaced in his Jan. 16 column on Dina Titus (“Return of the reluctant professor”).

Ms. Titus is a tenured UNLV professor in good standing with the same right to unpaid leave as anyone in that position. Professors on unpaid leave receive the same merit increase as their peers upon return to the classroom. Some take unpaid leave to write books or do research. Ms. Titus did so to serve in Congress, something arguably more important to students, colleagues and UNLV.

Mr. Cook makes light of Ms. Titus’ other current duties at UNLV, including research, administrative work at the Black Mountain Institute and coordination of a presentation series, but these are at least as time-consuming as teaching and benefit not just the school, but the community.

Students can benefit from the real-world experience Dina Titus brings to bear in the classroom and elsewhere.

LETTER: Sonia Sotomayor, retirement and race

Using race to justify or condemn the action of others is simply wrong and, some would say, the definition of racism. We are all one people.

Both the front-runner presidential candidates should step aside and give us some choices who are younger and have fresh ideas to get us out of the $35 trillion debt.

I noticed recently that euphemisms are commonly used by progressives in order to make the agenda they support seem less harsh or unpleasant.

LETTER: Biden ignores the Supreme Court on student loans

Biden is constantly harping on how Trump is a threat to democracy and will be a dictator, eliminating our freedoms. It is Biden, however, who has proven himself the dictator who is threatening democracy.

LETTER: More on 1968

As a cop who was at not only at the 1968 Democratic convention at the Conrad Hilton on Michigan Avenue, but also the Chicago arson fires on the west side, I feel there were many reasons why the city was a tinderbox.
