Wildfire described as threat to homes
COLEVILLE, Calif. — A 150-acre wildfire burning along the eastern Sierra about 70 miles south of Reno posed a threat to a dozen homes, officials said Saturday.
The fire just south of Coleville near the Nevada line also threatened one commercial building and 12 outbuildings, U.S. Forest Service spokesman Marnie Bonesteel said.
No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
The blaze was 10 percent contained Saturday afternoon and was expected to be fully surrounded by Monday, Bonesteel added. “You never know what will happen with the wind,” she said. “But right now they feel they’re getting their arms around it. … There’s no immediate threat (to any structure).”
Officials were unsure how close the fire had burned to the homes.
The blaze was burning brush and pinyon-pine forest on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
It was among about 15 wildfires touched off by lightning Friday along the eastern Sierra in the Reno-Tahoe area, fire spokeswoman Helen Frazier said. “All the others were very small and pose no problems at this time,” she said.
One of the blazes sent up a big smoke plume and temporarily shut down a section of busy Vista Boulevard in Sparks. There was no damage to any structures.
