Sahara reopens after crash closes road in both directions near Buffalo
Sahara Avenue was closed in both directions Wednesday between Cimarron Road and Buffalo Drive because of a fatal crash.
Police responded to the crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Miller Lane and West Sahara Avenue at 3:16 p.m.
The motorcycle was traveling east on Sahara and collided with a westbound sedan turning into the Sahara Hart Plaza shopping center. The driver of the sedan did not seem impaired, Las Vegas police Sgt. Richard Strader said. The motorcyclist was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police are still trying to ascertain if excessive speed on the part of the motorcyclist was a factor. “They ride faster than they can control sometimes,” Strader said.
No charges or citations have been issued. The road was reopened about 7:30 p.m.
This is the 77th traffic fatality this year. Strader said there are fewer traffic fatalities in general than last year, but more deaths involving pedestrians and motorcycles.
