The carpet was red, but the political dialogue varied in color.
With election day Tuesday, celebrities at Soul Train Awards 2016 expressed how important it is for them to use their platforms as public figures to encourage fans to vote.
The awards show was Sunday at Orleans Arena on 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. Some stars revealed their vote; one said he was not voting at all.
Internet sensation James Wright said being in a position of power is tremendous and it’s important to use your voice.
Rhythm-and-blues singer Tank said bringing awareness and education to the process is important. He said people need to know and exercise their rights.
Actor Jay Ellis said, “I feel like after the ninth, we’re gonna be headed in a more positive direction. The one Obama set us on.”
Omarosa Manigault, the director of African American outreach for the Trump Campaign, expressed her support for Trump.
Legend Award honoree Teddy Riley said he will not be voting but did not explain why.
