Officials investigate dead man ‘mystery’
The Nevada Department of Wildlife is investigating the death of a California man whose body was found next to his personal watercraft on the Nevada side of the Colorado River Saturday morning.
Agency spokesman Nick Duhe identified the man as Jose Calderon, 23, of Garden Grove.
Duhe said Calderon’s girlfriend was riding in front of him when she noticed Calderon wasn’t behind her and she turned back to look for him.
Another woman was attending to Calderon as the girlfriend returned to the scene, about a mile north of the bridge connecting Laughlin to Bullhead City, Ariz.
Duhe said there were no witnesses to the accident, that Calderon was wearing a life jacket and that his body was found next to the watercraft that had been powered off.
There is no immediate indication of a cause of death, and it will take at least a couple of weeks to complete the toxicology portion of the autopsy, Duhe said.
“It’s a little bit of a mystery,” Duhe said. “There were no broken bones. The was no damage to the jet ski, and there was no head trauma.”
