They’re not ‘politicians’

In political events featuring all the candidates, it’s not unusual for "audience" questions to be plants from a supporter. It’s sneaky, yet smart.

A good example showed up at Thursday’s event featuring the four Democrats running for lieutenant governor. The question seemed innocuous enough. A student wanted to know where the four contenders graduated from college. Only Paul Murad actually graduated from a college – the University of Tulsa. Robert Randazzo quit for a high paying job and put himself in good company, noting that Bill Gates, Paul Allen and Brian Williams didn’t graduate either. Robert Goodman didn’t get a degree and Reno City Councilwoman Jessica Sferrazza is working on her bachelor’s in political science at the University of Nevada Reno.

There were other differences between them the candidates wanted to stress. Sferrezza is the only one who has won an election, so to distinguish themselves from her, Murad and Randazzo, both businessmen, say they aren’t politicians.

Fellas, if you’re running for a statewide office, you’re a politician. Lose that line.
