More medical calls, a fire and no fatalities at EDC’s Day 2

A malfunctioning pyrotechnic device set off a fire on an Electric Daisy Carnival stage during the festival’s sec0nd day, Las Vegas police said.

In a statement, the Clark County Fire Department said a propane-fueled pyrotechnic device failed to operate properly and ignited parts of one stage and some surrounding speakers. Stage employees failed in their attempts to extinguish the fire, and one employee received minor burn injuries.

Standby crews from the fire department were able to get the fire under control, keeping it from spreading to other areas of the stage and preventing a more significant fire, the release said.

Besides the fire, police reported 212 medical calls and 39 narcotics-related felony arrests Saturday.

No fatalities were reported at the event Saturday, which Insomniac Productions reported drew 135,000 attendees.

Thirty-four people were ejected from the carnival. Besides the 39 drug-related felony arrests, there was one misdemeanor narcotics-related arrest, and two misdemeanor citations.

Most of the 212 medical calls handled turned out to be minor, but a dozen people were taken to hospitals.

There were no traffic fatalities, police said. No arrests were made for gross misdemeanors or driving under the influence, whether alcohol- or drug-related.

Three traffic crashes were reported, but no citations were issued.
