Nevada soldiers honored in Reno homecoming ceremony
Dozens of returning Nevada Army Guard members were honored Saturday after nearly a year of service in the Middle East.
The ceremony, held in Reno, honored about 50 soldiers from the 757th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion who recently completed deployment to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, the Nevada office of the military said.
“We just wanted to let them know their state and their country is proud of them,” spokesman Sgt. Mike Orton said.
The unit left Nevada in September 2014 and spent most of the past 11 months stationed along the border of Egypt and Israel, the department said. 757th Battalion soldiers offered “command, control, administrative and logistical support” to the Multinational Forces and Observers contingent, making sure that a 1982 peace treaty between the two countries is upheld.
The Guard members joined about 200 other service members during the peacekeeping mission, the office said.
Saturday’s ceremony took place at the Peppermill in Reno.
