F-16 pilot remains hospitalized after ground crash at Nellis Air Force Base
An Air Force pilot is still in the hospital following Saturday’s mishap at Nellis Air Force Base where two F-16 Fighting Falcon jets collided after landing for a Red Flag orientation flight, base officials said Thursday.
“One pilot remains hospitalized as a result of injuries sustained during the collision,” according to a news release posted on the Nellis website.
The Air Force has released few details about the accident which occurred shortly after the two jets from 301st Fighter Wing landed at 11:20 a.m. Saturday. Both pilots were hospitalized for medical evaluation after the collision.
The F-16s, based at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base, Texas, had flown to Nellis to participate in an ongoing Red Flag air combat training exercise.
A safety board will investigate the accident.
