22-year-old Army soldier from Reno killed in Afghanistan

RENO — Friends say a Reno soldier was among eight killed during a weekend firefight against insurgents in Afghanistan.

Twenty-two year old Army Pfc. Kevin Thomson died in combat Saturday.

Thomson joined the military in April 2008.

Thomson was serving with the 4th Infantry Division, headquartered in Fort Carson, Colo.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Thomson attended Wooster High School as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Academy for Career Education, a charter high school.
