Governor to fill vacancy on state education board
Nevada State Board of Education member Alexis Gonzales-Black resigned last week after moving to California to launch a business venture.
“It has been a privilege to represent Congressional District 1 as their elected State Board of Education member and I am proud of what we have accomplished over the past two and half years,” she wrote in a letter to Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Sandoval will fill the vacancy until an election in 2016. Letters of interest can be sent to the governor’s office.
Board President Elaine Wynn said in a statement, “Alexis has made a meaningful contribution to education in all of her roles throughout her career, and she has always been a voice for students and continual improvement in our system of public education.”
Gonzales-Black was a former high school science teacher, turned Zappos college recruiter when she won election to the board in 2012.
Gonzales-Black’s social media Twitter account said she now lives in Northern California’s Bay Area and is the co-founder of ThoughtfulOrg.com, however, the website led to a blank page late Tuesday. Her Twitter account also said she is “interested in making the world an awesomer more equitable place to live and work.”
