Former Nevada state schools chief Eugene Paslov dies
CARSON CITY — Eugene Paslov, who served as Nevada state superintendent of public instruction from 1985 to 1994, died Sunday at the age of 80.
Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell praised Paslov, saying he was a champion of education and the arts in the capital city after leaving the state post.
Paslov continued working as an education consultant, served on the city’s Cultural Commission and spearheaded efforts to start a charter high school called the Nevada Performance Academy.
The Nevada Appeal reported Paslov began his education career teaching English in Long Beach, Calif., and volunteered for the Peace Corps in 1963. He was later state superintendent in Michigan for two years.
Survivors include his wife, Susan.
Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
