Coroner’s inquest scheduled in death of `street person’
A coroner’s inquest into the death of 35-year-old David Cecil Riddle of Phoenix, who was shot to death by a police officer Thursday, has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.
Clark County Coroner Ron Flud said James Ordowski will be the hearing officer for the inquest, which will be held in domestic relations office No. 2 in District Court.
Flud said about six people will be called to testify, including a member of the victim’s family. No witnesses of the shooting have been found, he said.
The coroner said family members classified Riddle as a "street person" but did not know why he was in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas police officer George Pease, 27, told officials he killed Riddle after the suspect charged at him with a knife near the Fez Motel, 4213 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
A coroner’s jury will determine whether the shooting was justified.
