BLM puts 40 wild horses, 10 burros up for adoption
The Bureau of Land Management will have a special adoption for wild horses and burros this weekend at Horseman’s Park, offering free delivery of the animals within 100 miles of the park.
Qualified adopters can choose from 40 wild horse yearlings, geldings and mares and 10 burros that have been gathered from public lands in Nevada because of drought, overpopulation and habitat ravaged by wildfires.
“The animals are vaccinated, wormed, healthy and looking for a family. They need someone, possibly you, to give them a good home,” reads a BLM statement announcing the adoption.
The minimum fee for the silent, competitive bid will start at $125 per animal. The animals can be previewed on the BLM’s Web site, www.blm.gov/nv/st/en.html.
Adopters will be able to adopt a second animal for $25.
The horses and burros will arrive at noon Friday at Horseman’s Park, 5800 E. Flamingo Road, about a mile east of Boulder Highway.
The park will open 7 a.m. Saturday for potential adopters to see the animals and have their applications approved. The adoption will be conducted from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Animals not adopted during the competitive bid will be available Saturday afternoon and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday for $125 per animal.
Adopters must be at least 18 years old and have no convictions for inhumane treatment of animals. They must have adequate facilities and financial means to care for the animals.
