Auction of Augustine estate Saturday
The leftover pieces of former state Controller Kathy Augustine’s life will be up for bid Saturday. The auction comes the same week that her husband, Chaz Higgs, goes on trial in Reno in her death.
Chris Munoz, auction coordinator for Deiro & Associates, said the timing was a coincidence. The auction was approved by Augustine’s daughter, Dallas, who inherited her mother’s Las Vegas home and its contents after Kathy Augustine died in July.
The auction will be at Kathy Augustine’s house in Las Vegas. Dallas Augustine removed some photographs, jewelry and other sentimental items, but everything else is for sale.
“This is Kathy’s life in here,” Munoz said. “Everything in here meant something to Kathy. I believe everything in here would tell something about Kathy’s life.”
The auction includes high-end pieces of jewelry, luxurious fur coats, antique furniture and china dining sets.
It includes personal property and one-of-a-kind items collected throughout her life, including a bin of books from her childhood, television scripts signed by cast members of hit shows such as “Beverly Hills 90210,” and photographs of Kathy Augustine with political leaders such as President George H.W. Bush and Newt Gingrich.
Two pet ferrets aren’t for sale.
The auction is open to the public, but curiosity-seekers beware. Auction employees will oust anyone who shows up not to bid but to be nosy, Munoz said.
“We’re here to do a job, not run a circus,” he said.
A preview of the property starts at 9 a.m., with the auction at 10 a.m. The address is 1400 Maria Elena Drive, near Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway. For more information call Munoz at 792-4050 or 818-6879.
