Arrest made in 2007 Pro Bowl payments case
A tour company owner was arrested Thursday on charges he duped consumers out of more than $500,000 that was supposed to pay for trips to the 2007 NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
The Nevada Consumer Affairs Division of the Department of Business and Industry has received over 235 complaints against Las Vegan Mitchell Adam Chirchick, 39, owner of CEI Sports Tours.
Chirchick was arrested in Las Vegas on nine counts of felony theft, said Sharon Jackson, deputy chief investigator for the consumer affairs division.
Consumers were promised plane and game tickets as well as hotel rooms at the Hyatt in Hawaii. The cost of the trip was between $1,000 and $1,400 per person.
Chirchick has been accused of similar actions in the past. In 1997, Spectacular Sports Specials, sued Chirchick in District Court for agreeing to pay $30,300 for tickets to the Sugar Bowl and hotel rooms. Chirchick’s check bounced because of insufficient funds in his account, a complaint alleged.
The complaint was dismissed in August 2001 because neither party had taken any action in the case.
In another District Court complaint, Chirchick was accused of retaining a bus service for $6,300 but canceling a check to the company immediately after delivering it. A default judgment was entered on behalf of the plaintiffs.
