Windy weather hits Las Vegas for spring break

Hold on to your hats, Las Vegas.

Tuesday is expected to bring steady winds and a gusty afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

After Monday’s 90-degree high — which broke the 88-degree record set in 2004 — winds are expected to blow through the valley by late Tuesday morning, pushing temps gradually lower through the rest of the week, weather service meteorologist John Salmen said.

Tuesday winds are expected to blow between 15 and 25 mph, but could gust to 40 mph by afternoon, Salmen said. Mostly clear skies will be accompanied by temperatures expected to peak at 89 degrees. Nighttime lows Tuesday should dip to 61 degrees.

Slightly weaker winds between 10 and 20 mph will continue through Wednesday, bringing high temperatures down to about 81 degrees, Salmen said. Lows Wednesday night should fall to about 57 degrees, he said.

Thursday is expected to be slightly breezy with high temperatures reaching a mild 73 degrees and nighttime lows dipping to about 51 degrees.

Winds should pick back up Friday morning and gusts will fall off in the afternoon, Salmen said. High temps Friday will be about 73 degrees.

More wind is forecast for Saturday night into Sunday, with some weather models showing winds stronger than on Tuesday. Highs are expected to be in the mid- to upper 70s and lows are forecast in the low to mid-50s through the weekend, Salmen said.
