Remember, desert dwellers, it’s getting hot out there
Drink more water and try to stay cool, because high temperatures in the Las Vegas Valley will continue through the weekend.
It will be a mostly sunny Friday with a high of 99 degrees, flirting with 100, National Weather Service meteorologist Caleb Steele said.
Northwest winds blowing 5 to 7 mph will switch to a southeasterly direction by nightfall, once the temperature drops down to 77 degrees.
But the heat won’t stop there.
Saturday is expected to be the first day the valley enters triple-digits, with an expected high of with 102 degrees, 8 degrees above normal, Steele said.
Sunday will kick it up a notch with a high of 103 degrees, just one degree shy of the valley’s May 31 record high of 104.
Clark County officials on Friday reminded desert dwellers of tips to avoid dehydration.
- Don’t leave children or pets in unattended vehicles. Temperatures can rise to 120 degrees in a car when outside temperatures are in the 90s.
- Wear sunscreen, carrying plenty of water, dress for summer and limit outdoor activities to before noon and after sundown.
- Check on friends, family and the elderly who many need help adjusting to the heat.
“Most heat disorders occur because the victim has been overexposed to heat or has over-exercised for his or her age and physical condition,” according to a Clark County news release. Heat exhaustion symptoms include heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps and dizziness.
