Rain forecast this week for Las Vegas Valley; snow in mountains

A storm system moving through the Las Vegas Valley this week could end the city’s more than 100-day dry spell.

A 50 percent chance of rain Monday afternoon will accompany cloudy skies and a forecast high of 56 degrees. The valley reached a 116-day dry streak Sunday.

The valley will see an 80 percent chance of rain Tuesday to accompany a 59-degree high and cloudy skies. A winter storm warning will be in effect at elevations above 7000 feet Tuesday morning until 10 p.m. that night, the weather service said. Many parts of the Spring Mountains will see 6 to 12 inches of snow, with some areas seeing as many as 18 inches.

Dry conditions and sunny skies will return to the valley Wednesday and Thursday when temperatures are expected climb back into the low 60s. Friday shows a forecast high of 64 degrees. Nighttime lows throughout the week are expected to stay in the low- to mid-40s.
