National Weather Service: Expect a windy Wednesday
A large, low-pressure system moving in from the coast of California should bring gusty winds up to 25 mph on Wednesday.
Mostly clear skies in the morning should yield to high clouds from the West into the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Wednesday temperatures are expected to peak at about 99 degrees and lows should dip to 77 at night.
Thursday will be slightly windier and cloudier than Wednesday. There’s a slight chance that thunderstorms to the north of Las Vegas will bring showers to the valley, but the chance is minimal, meteorologist Dan Berc said.
Thursday’s highs are forecast about 94 degrees and nighttime lows are expected to drop to 74.
Friday will be dry with temperatures still below normal, Berc said. The high is expected to reach 95 degrees and nighttime lows should hit 75 degrees.
Tuesday’s high temperatures peaked at about 100 degrees following a monsoon thunderstorm Monday night.
A flash-flood watch was announced for Southern Nevada on Tuesday, but McCarran International Airport, the weather service’s official precipitation measuring point, measured less than .01 of an inch of precipitation, Berc said. The chances for storm development were minimal once the sun set Tuesday night.
But that’s a different story from what unfolded in the valley on Monday evening.
The Las Vegas Fire Department responded to about a dozen weather-related calls during the monsoon, fire officials said.
All of the calls were in the west valley, spanning Rainbow Boulevard to Interstate 15 and Alta Drive to Desert Inn Road, the department said. Responders performed 10 swift-water rescues and three water-related electrical incidents between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., the release said.
McCarran got only .05 of an inch of rain Monday, while parts of the west valley reported over an inch of rain in a 30- to 45-minute period.
It’s too early for specifics, Berc said, but weather models show monsoon wind patterns could bring more moisture to the valley next week.
