Las Vegas New Year’s Eve weather will be close to perfect

Weather conditions will stay seasonably cool and dry through New Year’s Eve and into the first day of 2020, according to the National Weather Service.

“Winds will be calm and at midnight it will be right about 40 degrees give or take a degree or two,” meteorologist Trevor Boucher said about Tuesday night’s forecast.

The lack of wind means the fireworks show should go off at midnight as planned.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality noted Tuesday that there is a downside to the calm conditions, issuing a smoke advisory for Tuesday and Wednesday because of fireworks. The advisory noted that the tiny particles and other pollutants present in fireworks smoke can aggravate respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and asthma or heart disease.

Tuesday reached a high of 56, which is also the average high for this time of year, meteorologist Alex Boothe said. Temperatures are expected to drop to 36 overnight with low winds below 10 mph.

The first day of 2020 will be partly cloudy with a high near 55 and light winds. Temperatures will rise slightly through the first week of the new year, with expected highs of 58 on Thursday, 57 on Friday, 58 again on Saturday and 59 on Sunday.

No rain is in the five-day forecast, and overnight lows will be in the high 30s to low 40s, the weather service said.
