Las Vegas hits record high; warm weather sticking around

The Las Vegas Valley’s water parks picked the ideal day for their season openers.

The temperature reached a record 91 degrees Saturday, making Cowabunga Bay and Wet ‘n’ Wild open days very inviting for people seeking to cool down and have fun.

The high temperature measured about 4 p.m. is noteworthy but not “extremely uncommon” for this time of year, said National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Harrison. A lot of records from March are about 90 degrees.

The previous record high for a March 28 — 89 degrees — came in 1986, Harrison said.

The normal high temperature for this time of year is 73 to 74 degrees.

Expect the temperatures to remain above average at least until Tuesday. The projected high for Sunday to Tuesday is 89, Harrison said.

Things will start cooling down on Wednesday, to about 82, and drop to the mid-70s later in the week.

Las Vegas police on Saturday warned motorists about the dangers of leaving babies and toddlers in hot cars and reminded them to “look before you lock.”
