Las Vegas continues warm streak over Thanksgiving
Las Vegas residents had more than family and friends to keep them warm over the long Thanksgiving weekend. They also had Mother Nature.
November weather continued its warm streak on Saturday, breaking the 2000 record high temperature of 74 by 4 degrees. That 78-degree high compares with today’s expected high of 66, which still will be higher than the monthly average of 56, according to the National Weather Service.
Based on the numbers from the past two months, meteorologist Barry Pierce said the temperatures seemed to average about 2½ degrees above the normal.
The weather will change on Tuesday, when a storm system from the Southern California mountains works its way through the valley. The chance for rain will be higher in the afternoons, lasting into early Wednesday morning. Temperatures will range from 60 to 70 degrees during the showers.
It’ll be more of a warm storm, Pierce said, noting that there won’t be much wind and mountainous areas lower than 8,000 feet elevation will likely see more rain than snow.
“It’ll be something we haven’t seen since monsoon season,” he said.
December also will be warmer than usual, but nothing like November, Pierce said.
