Freeze will linger, but warmer temperatures on the way

The National Weather Service has issued a hard-freeze warning — when temperatures drop below 28 degrees in areas that don’t normally freeze — for just one more day, lasting until 9 a.m. Friday.

Then temperatures are expected to steadily rise, inching up to a high of 60 degrees by Monday.

The climb in temperatures is expected to be paired with dry conditions, according to service meteorologist Caleb Steele. There’s no sign of rain — or snow — in the next five days at least, he said.

Even though the valley’s threat of snow has passed, there are still hazardous driving conditions for travelers leaving town, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT warns drivers traveling from Las Vegas to Phoenix that southbound U.S. Highway 93 and Interstate 40 are open but icy conditions remain. I-40 from U.S. 93 to Williams, Ariz., remains closed.

Friday’s high temperatures are expected to reach the mid- to upper- 40s again and Saturday could see temps in the low 50s, Steele said. Lows for Friday should drop to the low 30s and mid- to upper- 30s on Saturday.

Las Vegas can expect to see temperatures in the 60s by the middle of next week, Steele said.
