A little rain, cooler temperatures expected in Las Vegas Valley
A storm system is moving through the Las Vegas Valley and it might make your day a bit cooler, according to the National Weather Service.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected on Friday, meteorologist Justin Pullin said, but most of the precipitation would be found at higher elevations, such as the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range.
But high temperatures will be reminiscent of the beginning of the week, reaching 73 degrees, about 20 degrees below the normal of 91 degrees. Temperatures will drop to about 60 degrees by nightfall.
The weather will start to quiet down by Saturday as the storm system moves east, Pullin said.
Las Vegas will still be below average throughout the weekend, he said, with Saturday’s highs in the upper 70s and Sunday’s in the low 80s.
The last time temperatures reached 90 degrees was May 4, the weather service said in a tweet. Since then, it’s been 18 consecutive days of temperatures below 90 degrees.
In May 1957, 19 days straight of below average temperatures were recorded in Las Vegas.
In another way of measuring the month’s coolness, the highest record of cool May weather was in 1983 and 1977 with 20 days under 90 degrees.
