Small plane crashes at airport in northern Arizona
SEDONA, Arizona — Two people were seriously injured after a small plane went off a ledge at the end of a runway at the Sedona Airport in northern Arizona.
Sedona Fire District spokesman Gary Johnson says the plane dropped about 200 feet into a tree-covered slope off the runway’s south end about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Johnson says the pilot and two passengers were extricated and survived the crash. Their names weren’t immediately released.
One person was airlifted to a Flagstaff hospital and another was taken by ground ambulance. Both were reported to be in serious condition. A third person was treated at the crash scene.
Federal Aviation Administration officials say the single-engine Mooney M20J was arriving from Henderson, Nev.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
