Reid touts $2.5 million in US highway grants for Nevada

RENO, Nev. — Sen. Harry Reid has announced more than $2.5 million in federal highway grants for projects in Nevada intended to improve safety on roads and interstates.

The Nevada Democrat says the money is being made available under an act entitled, “Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century.”

It includes the formal designation of the U.S. Interstate 11 corridor between Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Reid says the grants will fund projects specifically intended to reduce deaths and injuries. Among other things, they focus on such things as driver education, impaired driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, occupant protection and emergency medical services.

Reid says a total of more than $166 million is being distributed to 57 jurisdictions across the country.
